Returns management

Returns management

A high-performance process for optimum results

The key point: identification of return parcels

Each return parcel is uniquely identified in real time, making data entry more reliable and optimized.

WMS added value: item recognition

The aim of the item recognition stage is to declare the detailed content (item, quantity, quality, batch, dlv, etc.) of each single or multi-reference return parcel. As a last resort, it is during this phase that the customer is identified.

Different situations are dealt with

There are two possible scenarios: either the return is announced, in which case a check is carried out with the expected item; or the return is carried out blindly with different levels of control (item known and accepted on return, authorized customer, etc.).

All types of return are managed, whatever the commercial conditions

The intelligent step: item sorting and storage

Items are sorted and grouped into storage media (bins, rolls, etc.) according to their destination: repair, manufacturer's return, destruction, return to stock, refusal, etc. The destination is determined on the one hand on the basis of the physical condition of the goods, and on the other hand according to the article and customer settings.

Sorting can be carried out either manually (fixed station, radio terminals) or by controlled automated systems.

Sorting can be carried out either manually (fixed station, radio terminals) or by controlled automated systems. For example, with a sorter: sorting information is communicated to the sorter, which in turn reports on operations to dispatch items into storage bins. Another example with a put to light system: items are grouped by destination in storage bins, and their location is indicated by an indicator light.

Exchanges with information systems

Exchanges with the various information systems take place throughout the process. Upstream, parameter elements (item and customer) are transmitted by the sales management system. Expected returns are announced by the sales management system and/or by the carriers responsible for routing the goods. During and at the end of the process, sales management receives progress reports for customer information and credit notes.

Points of attention in returns management

  • Process reliability
  • Unique parcel identification
  • Label scanning
  • Elimination of redundant data entry

Items waiting to be placed in bins are controlled and stored in real time using a radio terminal.
